High brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome grade and aspiration pneumonia, either developing peri-operatively or as pre-existing condition, may represent risk factors for postoperative tracheostomy. Preoperative diagnosis of aspiration pneumonia may further increase the risk of postoperative complications.
