Here we report a general C(sp<sup>3</sup>)-H/C(sp<sup>3</sup>)-H dehydrogenative coupling strategy for the preparation of various natural or unnatural amino acids from readily available glycine derivatives and hydrocarbons through a combination of SET and HAT process.
