Abnormal locomotor muscle recruitment activity is present in horses with shivering and Purkinje cell distal axonopathy.

Shivering is characterised by abnormally elevated muscle recruitment particularly in BF and VL muscles during backward walking and associated with selective Purkinje cell distal axonal degeneration.
