Borophosphates are an ideal material class for the design of deep-UV optical functional crystals, yet their practical applications are limited by their small birefringence. Herein, a new mixed-coordinated borophosphate, NH 4 (B 6 PO 10 (OH) 4 )·H 2 O, has been successfully designed and synthesized, which exhibits the largest birefringence of all reported borophosphates.
