Magnetic resonance imaging of medial collateral ligament avulsion fractures of the knee in children: a potentially underestimated injury.

Pediatric MCL avulsion fractures in this study uniformly involve the attachment of the deep MCL and can be entirely non-osseous, particularly in boys who lag in skeletal maturity, making these injuries radiographically occult. MR imaging may be required to recognize these avulsions, which can impact the duration of rest and knee bracing.
