There is a changing trend towards endoscopic DCR being incorporated as the primary procedure for managing acute dacryocystitis with the advantages of quicker resolution and reduced morbidity. There is a trend for choosing needle aspiration over the traditional incision and drainage in the initial management of lacrimal abscess.
