Rheumatic mitral disease accounts for a meaningful (12%) and rising percentage of mitral valve operations in the region, with high variability among hospitals. Rheumatic mitral surgery yielded similar short-term outcomes compared to nonrheumatic pathology, but required greater resource utilization.
