Severe lower respiratory tract infections are associated with human adenovirus in hospitalised children in a high HIV prevalence area.

HAdV must be considered a major cause of severe LRTI in U5 children. Children with LRTI who had perinatal HIV exposure and those with SAM need to be tested for HAdV and to be monitored for severe disease.
