Approximately 90% of VPI-correcting procedures are completed inpatient nationwide. Cardiac and/or neuromuscular disease significantly increased the patients' readmission risk when discharged on the same day of surgery. The inpatient setting should remain the best practice as adequate resources are available to mitigate life-threatening complications.
