Based on recommendations from the 2012 VHA Guidance on Dispensing and Monitoring Oral Chemotherapy, data presented here demonstrate that ECHCS could benefit from improved lab monitoring in order to ensure safe and effective use of oral chemotherapies. These results provide a unique opportunity to consider the potential role of clinical pharmacists in monitoring and management of patients receiving oral chemotherapies as well as patient and provider education regarding the importance of appropriate lab monitoring.
