Because burnout, mental health, and substance use disorders are high stakes amongst physicians, it is critical that access to PHPs is available, destigmatized, and affordable. Our paper focuses specifically on the financial cost of recovery, the financial burden placed on PHP participants, a topic lacking in the literature, and highlights remedies and vulnerable populations.
