Contamination of smears with "sergentella spiroides".

Abstract "Sergentella spiroides" is a filamentous fungal spore which can incidentally contaminate smears. In Romanowsky stainings the spores are confusingly like microfilariae and it is important to recognize the phenomenon to avoid diagnostic mistakes.
