There is a lack of well-designed studies evaluating HFJV during ablation procedures. The available information, while sparse, supports the effect of less tissue movement, resulting in better surgical precision and outcome; such as shorter procedural time, fewer shock waves (ESWL) and less recurrence of atrial fibrillation. Randomised controlled studies are needed in this promising area of research to prove its superiority to standard ventilation.
