Cryopreservation of PLTs induces dramatic changes to the basal PLT phenotype and renders them largely nonresponsive to agonist stimulation, likely due to the alterations in signal transduction. Therefore, further efforts are required to understand how cryopreserved PLTs achieve their hemostatic effect once transfused.
