Among patients receiving their first dose of tobramycin in the MICU, 81.3% obtained an optimal serum concentration. Female sex and serum albumin < 2.5 g/dL were identified as risk factors for suboptimal target obtainment; however, further research is warranted to assess the utility of using these two covariates as risk factors for more aggressive dosing in critically ill MICU patients.
