The Ilizarov method used together with an ALTP, LD, or a combination thereof yields good clinical results for repairing large bone and soft tissue defects of the tibia, thus reducing the incidence of amputations. However, longer treatment times may be involved, and postoperative complications can occur. The vascularized iliac flap may be a suitable choice for the treatment of postoperative complications of this type of Ilizarov bone transport.
