Opioid drug use has a positive association with osteoporosis in elderly men, independent of other conventional risk factors. Elderly drug users might be at a higher risk for osteoporotic fractures, given the effect of substance use on cognition. So, osteoporosis among drug users would be of importance, especially in countries where opium consumption is prevalent.
