Active surveillance (AS) is now considered the appropriate management option for a majority of cases of Gleason grade group 1 (GG1) prostate cancer (PC). The long-term survival for such patients undergoing AS is comparable to those managed with radical prostatectomy (RP) or radical radiotherapy (RT), and it avoids the significant adverse effects associated with radical treatment.
