• Age, microscopic pleural invasion, and pathologic tumor size tended to be associated with pleural recurrence in stage I lung cancer before propensity matching. • After propensity matching, pre-biopsy CT target size and microscopic lymphatic invasion were associated with pleural recurrence. • No particular PTNB techniques were associated with reduced pleural seeding in stage I lung cancer before and after propensity matching.
