We suggest that apparent long-term stability of P. palmaeformis may be due to thermal buffering near its northern range edge as well as from the wave-exposed coastlines it inhabits, which may have decreased heatwave impacts. Our results highlight the importance of multi-scale assessments when examining changes within species and populations, and the importance of dispersal capability and local conditions in regulating species' responses to climate change.
