In this work, we report the electrochemical reactivity of MoTe 2 for various metal ions with special emphasis on Al 3+ ion storage in aqueous electrolytes for the first time. A stable discharge capacity of 100 mA h g -1 over 250 cycles at a current density of 1 Ag -1 could be obtained for the Al 3+ ion, whereas inferior storage capacities were shown for other metal ions.
