3-dimensional considerations in deep plane face and neck lifting are often overlooked. Rather than focus on the amount of pull achieved, the focus should shift to providing maximal release and finding the appropriate amount of movement in each individual vector to obtain maximal improvement and rejuvenation along the face, jawline, and neck. The deep plane techniques as described in this article aid the surgeon in manipulating the deep plane and deep neck space maximally, while also providing measurable end points and more effective modes of fixation by utilizing the mastoid crevasse. Proper vectorial lifting also provides a greater degree of deep neck compartment restoration with better repositioning of the digastric muscles, submandibular and parotid glands. Most importantly the use of techniques which release tension and redrape yield the most natural and well-balanced results.
