Accelerated loss of lean body mass in head and neck cancer patients during cisplatin-based chemoradiation.

Accelerated and substantial LBM loss was already initiated within the first two weeks of treatment - before the onset of radiation-induced mucositis. LBM loss was associated with muscle strength impairment. Patients receiving CCRT experienced significantly larger LBM loss than patients receiving radiation alone.
