Phenothiazine cyclic hexamers linked at the 3,7-positions were synthesized. Effects of the cyclic structure as well as substituent effects of the nitrogen atom were disclosed. Furthermore, the cyclic hexamer encapsulated C 60 inside the ring in a 1 : 1 ratio giving a Saturn-type complex in solution. The structure and interactions were discussed based on DFT calculations.
