Abnormalities of liver function in giant cell arteritis (GCA) have long been described 1 and are present at the acute phase of the disease in 30% to 60% of cases. 2-4 Hepatic involvement is mostly anicteric cholestasis (eg, elevated alkaline phosphatase [ALP] and gamma-glutamyl transferase [GGT]), and, more rarely, cytolytic hepatitis (eg, elevated aspartate aminotransferase [AST] and/or alanine aminotransferase [ALT]).
