As an intracellular bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) antagonist gene, SMAD6 is frequently mutated in nsRUS. NOG, which encodes an extracellular BMP antagonist, is rarely mutated in nsRUS. This work is the first genetic study on nsRUS.
