As a field, we currently have a limited understanding of how intervention skills are used, and what factors predict effective skill application. Results suggest self-injuring adolescents and their mothers can learn and improve on most aspects of a core intervention strategy after a single teaching and that better physiological regulation during conflict is associated with more validating behaviors.
