A ratiometric fluorescent and colorimetric dual-modal sensing strategy is reported to distinguish and detect D 2 O from H 2 O based on ground-state proton transfer for the first time. It enables synchronous dual-modal changes towards different fractions of D 2 O and facilitates naked-eye recognition. The probe can provide a more accurate monitoring protocol for D 2 O analysis.
