The intensity of the macrophage staining was greater in the connective tissue of cysts and granulomas alike in the younger/middle age adult patients, suggesting that these cells participate actively in this tissue. Immune responses in older patients may be compromised, suggesting that there is a greater tendency for the endodontic treatment of these patients to fail.
