Present findings, while tentative and based on secondary endpoints, suggest differential associations of nitrous oxide vs. midazolam with bipolar depression severity and cerebral hemodynamics. Larger studies integrating neuroimaging targets and repeated nitrous oxide treatment sessions are warranted.
