• The percentage loss of fat mass was greater in the VAT region than in any other body regions in all patients. • The rate of VAT decrease in the PCOS group was higher than that in the control group yet insignificant. • HOMA-IR at baseline was an independent risk factor for the changes of VAT mass in patients with PCOS.
