Primary fecal diversion and bowel dysfunction in restorative proctocolectomy for ulcerative colitis: a nationwide cross-sectional study.

Omission of primary fecal diversion in ileal pouch-anal anastomosis for ulcerative colitis may have a negative impact on bowel function. Prospective studies are warranted to elaborate these findings and to determine causality with pelvic complications.
