The SCID-5 can be successfully adapted to assess QTEs in YACS following both DSM-IV and DSM-5 criteria. DSM-5 criteria significantly limit prevalence of QTE exposures compared with DSM-IV. As the majority of YACS identify cancer as their most stressful life event, it is critically important to investigate its impact on their psychological functioning. Until more is known about how PTSD symptoms may arise after cancer, clinicians and researchers should adapt PTSD assessments to systematically evaluate the role of cancer as a traumatic event that may lead to PTSD symptoms in YACS.
