The detailed anatomical findings of the anterior bundle of the longitudinal muscle suggested "an alternate arrangement of smooth muscles and skeletal muscles" in the region anterior to the anal canal and facilitated the visualization of the anterior bundle of the longitudinal muscle in transanal ultrasonography.
