Our study reveals that diverse patterns of PA accumulation exhibit distinct associations with various measures of physical function in midlife, irrespective of the overall volume. Contradictory findings and inconsistency between sexes warrant further investigation. Patterns of PA accumulation, in addition to volume, should be considered in future PA research. Longitudinal studies are required to determine whether a given volume of activity accumulated in different patterns, impacts associations between PA and health outcomes.
